Need A Lift?

Need A Lift?

If you love working on cars, you need a reliable means of lifting and securing your vehicle, preferably in your own garage. While there are several options for residential car lifts, the biggest obstacle comes from opening a typical overhead garage door.

Auto lifts come in a variety of styles, but most of them are either wheel engaging lifts (typically a four post) or frame engaging lifts (typically a two post). There are also several specialty lifts such as scissor, portable lifts and parking lifts among others. Regardless of the type of lift you choose for your garage; you will more than likely have to consider if the garage door will hit the lift or your vehicle.

Typical garage doors open into the garage at a standard height of approximately 7-8 feet even though the ceiling height of the garage can be as high as 12-15 feet meaning that a significant amount of space is not being utilized. You do have the option of adding a high-lift conversion which includes adding new tracks, springs, drums, cables and purchasing a new motor. This can be costly but there is a second option now which is a Horizontal Garage Door system from Contour Closures Inc.

The Horizontal Garage Door system moves side to side and then turns a corner to hug the side wall thus freeing up the ceiling for your new car lift. The amount of floor space taken up by the door when fully open is about 6” by the length of travel on the side wall of the garage. It is common practice when installing the CCI System, to build a false wall in front of the door to not only to add protection for the sections but to also regain wall space where you can store those car parts. In fact, Architects and builders are taking the false wall one step further by designing cabinetry, work spaces and garage appliances on the false wall to provide the homeowner with the illusion that the Horizontal Garage Door simply “disappears” after clicking the remote.

The Horizontal Garage Door system adds Flexibility in Design. Since the Horizontal Garage Door system does not suspend overhead when fully open, the material and look of the garage door can be virtually anything you want. The supplied hardware is simple and rugged with section sizes ranging from 9” to 54” and can weigh up to 100 pounds per section.

Lastly, opening heights and widths no longer have to conform to standard single or double car dimensions. The Horizontal Garage Door system functions without issue or exponential cost to widths of 24’ and heights up to 14’. Oh, and let’s not forget, the garage door motor has a lifetime warranty!
If you enjoy your garage and are looking for a solution that allows you to utilize wasted space, install the car lift you have always dreamed of or just want the convenience of a low maintenance, quiet and flexible garage door, the Horizontal Garage Door System is a game changer.
